2023 training tops

The EJFC is very excited to have partnered with local Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung and Bunitj woman Nakia Cadd who has designed our EJFC 2023 training tops. Nakia’s work has strong design elements of line work that connect with her family lines and landscapes of her Countries. Her artwork is also inspired by her motherhood journey, family and country.

Nakia’s design of the EJFC 2023 training top is a strong reflection of our club and the indegenous lands in which we gather. Each element of the design has a symbolic meaning:

  • The 2 gathering circles on the sash represent the Present and Future
  • In the spirit of reconciliation the footprints circling are people (Indigenous and Non-Indigenous) walking together and the other print is a Kangaroo track to depict the local area of Eltham
  • Gum trees and the Diamond Creek have been situated in Eltham for many years, the history of Eltham and acknowledge that the stories of country are still present – they lye within the roots of the oldest living trees, on the lands of the Wurundjeri People
  • The 4 gum leaves represent the values of EJFC; Respect, Leadership, Team and Competitive spirit
  • The design behind the gum leaves is the Diamond Creek flowing through our land
  • ‘Nillumbik’ in the language of the Wurundjeri people (Woi Wurrung language) means ‘shallow earth’,  which is why Nakia has used different elements of the design to honour the story of Wurundjeri country, its lands and waters

We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people, their Elders, Country and their song lines.

Our U18 girls and U17 boys will be proudly wearing this playing strip when they play in the Sir Douglas Nicholls Round.

We are the Mighty Red and Blacks!
